What is CBD?

CBD, which is short for Cannabidiol, is one of over one hundred known naturally occurring compounds found in the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa) that interacts with a series of receptors in the body known as the endocannabinoid system. While marijuana strains tend to be THC-rich (the cannabinoid responsible for inducing the “high” that cannabis is most known for), Hemp produces CBD-rich strains with only trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%).

While most people agree THC has notable therapeutic applications, not everyone has access to medical marijuana. Additionally, not everyone wants to experience the mind-altering effects that result from consuming it. This is why Cannabidiol (CBD) is an attractive option for many people. Furthermore, it’s now federally legal to consume CBD without fear of legal repercussions.

Is CBD oil safe to give to dogs?

The safety and benefits of CBD oil for dogs has been a trending topic lately. Some pet owners and many AXTON customers have said that CBD helps their dogs with many different benefits. At AXTON, we use the same ultra-premium CBD extract for our Pet Formula as we do with our other human-consumption extracts.

CBD is a primary, non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp and cannabis plants. CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects by itself and will not make people (or in this case, your pet) feel high, unlike other cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

We recommend consulting with your veterinarian before introducing your dog to any CBD products.

What are some reasons to give your dog CBD?

There are many reasons why a pet owner would consider giving their dog CBD oil. We’ve had customers give us numerous reasons as to why they continue to buy their dog CBD oil. Some of the most common reasons we’ve encountered is that CBD oil has helped their dog with separation anxiety, joint pain and inflammation relief in elderly dogs, and has helped support an overall better quality of life.

Please note, AXTON CBD products are not designed to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases in both humans as well as pets.

What are some of the health benefits to CBD oil for dogs?

Currently, there hasn’t been many formal studies conducted on how CBD affects dogs aside from some clinical studies. However, scientists do know that cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system, which helps the body maintain homeostasis.

Although no official studies have been proven, the feedback of benefits from dog owners have been:

  • CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can potentially help reduce swelling and pain in joints
  • May potentially help reduce anxiety
  • Can potentially help increase appetite

As mentioned earlier, AXTON CBD products are not designed to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases in both humans as well as pets.

Will CBD make my pet feel high?

A common concern about CBD is if it will get your pet high. CBD is the primary, non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in hemp and cannabis plants that does not get animals or humans high. Our Pet Formula contains less than 0.3% THC so you don’t have to worry about your pet becoming high after consumption.

How much CBD oil should I give to my dog?

Always be sure to consult with your veterinarian before introducing CBD to your pet. While monitoring your dog’s response, start with a low dosage of .25mg per day and slowly increase if needed. To help determine how your dog will metabolize CBD, take into account age, size, weight, and activity level.

A general rule of thumb, 0.2mg of CBD per pound is common. Example: If your dog weighs 25 pounds, 5mg of CBD should be ideal.

How do I give CBD oil to my dog?

Giving your dog the recommended amount of CBD may sound like a difficult task, however it’s much easier than you may think! Try the following:

  • The direct approach: Apply the CBD oil directly to the inside of your dog’s mouth
  • Put it on their favorite treat
  • Mix it with their water or food
